Jane has been sewing and knitting ever since she was a young child. By the time she was a teenager, handwork had become a passion. Jane’s first quilt was made while pregnant with her first child and she has not looked back since!
Jane’s quilting was originally traditional in style, however is now more creative and contemporary. She loves colour, pattern and design, having taken lessons in drawing, painting, fabric painting and dyeing, embroidery, beadwork and mosaics.
Jane has taken classes with wonderful teachers from South Africa and abroad that have inspired a love of colour, textiles and the creative process. Her work has been exhibited at Guild shows, the annual Garden Show in Pietermaritzburg and National Quilt Festivals. At the SAQG National Quilt Festival in Durban in 2015 Jane received third prize for “Rose of Mine” in the Contemporary Traditional Category; and in 2017 Highly Commended in the Open Category for “Delight in the Woodbush”.
Jane’s husband bought her a mid-arm quilting machine 2 years ago, and this year a Handiquilter Avante, adding another dimension to her quilting.
Jane is a qualified teacher as well as an SAQG Accredited teacher. She teaches classes in appliqué, patchwork, free-motion stitching and quilting. Jane loves sharing her knowledge and skills, motivating and inspiring a love for this wonderful art form.
