Quilt it to death!

Create a unique quilt using stencils, rulers, grids and more. Design and make up your own stencils or choose from a selection

available.

Work on a block, or blocks, of a manageable size and learn how to quilt-as-you-go.

We will also discuss marking tools, needles and threads, batting and fabrics.

Quilt-as-you-go

Stencils, rulers and grids, free-motion quilting – all quilted as you go!

Create a mini quilt using a stenciled design and then enhance with ruler work, grid guidelines and free-motion quilting. Using 4 squares, each 8” x 8”, quilting while you stitch, then join the squares with various techniques for a unique quilt, each square having been quilted in an easily manageable size on your domestic machine.

This technique can be applied to many quilts, I will show you a variety of ways to join your squares. Never again have a large, unmanageable quilt top to try quilt on your domestic machine.

UFO UPDATE

Do you have UFO’s or orphan blocks that you have no idea what to do with, either you’ve grown tired of the quilt or you only made one or more blocks to one day make up a quilt but that day has not yet arrived.

Use your UFO’s/orphan blocks to design a Modern Quilt.

Modern quilting is a fresh approach with new designs, reflecting your personality and personal style. Modern quilting has its roots in rebellion, in a desire to do something differently yet it’s background is one of tradition.

We will look at what you have to work with and how to make it into something simple, inspiring and creative.

As it is a design class there will be no stitching, only drawing and designing using easy techniques and principles to create an aesthetically pleasing quilt. These techniques and principles can then be put into practice for future projects.
